Back in 2008, about 1.4 million children lived in 5,000 to 8.000 orphanages across Indonesia, according data from the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Save the Children & UNICEF, 2008). Of these, only 1% were run by the state (Sagita et al).
Today, surveys suggest the number of children in orphanages has grown to 3.2 million. Although the number of orphanages has risen fast, it hasn’t kept pace with increasing demand (Shintaningtya, A., & Wibawa, D. S., 2020).
Of these, only about 1% are state-run orphanages (Sagita et al., 2022). Furthermore, survey results indicate that the number of children in orphanages in Indonesia has reached 3.2 million, with the number of orphanages increasing rapidly, yet the growth in caregiving facilities has not kept pace with this rise (Shintaningtyas, A., & Wibawa, D. S., 2020).
According to the Data Unit of Bali Province and as per the Department of Social Welfare, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, as of September 5, 2022, there are a total of 88 orphanages in Bali, of which 3 are government-owned and 85 are privately owned.
There are 2,668 children living in orphanages across Bali, according to data collected to support educational needs for children in need on the island.
There is an urgent need to provide adequate education for all children in orphanages in Bali to support the advancement of both the region and the nation. The children of Bali show remarkable talent and a strong interest in education, which is crucial for helping them achieve their dreams in the modern era.

The Business Development Program is designed to inspire students’ motivation in the business industry. We tailor our instruction to align with each student’s goals and visions in their business pursuits.
